Pure Michigan

This house is not only in a great location, but Marcia is a courteous and caring owner. The place is very well maintained and in the heart of one of the most scenic towns in Leelanau. It's a short walk to Northport Marina and beach, as well as Barb's Bakery and the local grocery. I highly recommend it if you want to see the very best of Michigan. Leelanau peninsula is idyllic. And don't plan on ever wanting to leave...

Great Northern Michigan Vacation

We stayed at Sandhill from June 12 - 19, 2016. We found the home to be very comfortable with everything we wanted, needed, and more. Our group consisted of 4 adults, 2 teenage children, and 3 larger dogs. This home easily accommodated us all nicely. The yard is large and very pretty with plenty of room for playing Frisbee and more. There is a small fire-pit to sit around and roast marshmallows in the evening, a charcoal grill, and a gas grill for cooking out on, a beautiful furnished front porch to have coffee, sit and read on, and comfortable indoor furnishings. We enjoyed the marina, park, and a few establishments in town. We were allowed to take the dogs and sit on the patio of the brewery and also the garage pubs to enjoy adult beverages too. We took trips away most every day as well. We visited the Northport Lighthouse and didn't know there was a $9 charge to park, but we paid it even though we were just stopping briefly. We went to Sleeping Bear Sand dunes, Leland, Suttons Bay, Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, and Long Lake too. It was quite a lot packed into a week, but we had a great vacation! Thank you Marcia, for providing this lovely spot for us to use. Definitely recommend!

Pam, thank you so much for this great review! Haven't forgotten my Cherry Republic promise... watch for a package! Hope to see you up in Northport again.

Happy Guests!

The following reviews from guests were selected for addition to this new website for Sandhill Northport, MI. It was my pleasure to go back through the web reviews and the handwritten guest books at the house to see reviews from families who have visited Northport many times and regard it as the highlight of their summer! As Maggie, age 7, from Ohio put it: "We stayed for a good time. We had ice cream by the beach and went boating. See you next year!"

Typical Wedding Family Review

Kathy B. said... Jan 18, 2016 - Wonderful! We rented this house for our family to stay at the weekend of my daughters wedding. It is a great house with plenty of room in a good location (very convenient if you are having a reception at The Willowbrook Mill). The garden made for some lovely pictures and the inside was just as nice and very comfortable. And we were able to bring our dog! Marcia was easy to work with and provided some helpful information about the Northport area. We would definitely stay here again.

Typical Review Since 2012 - all FIVE STAR

This home is absolutely perfect for a family vacation. We spent one week here and loved every minute of it. The home is comfortable, charming and includes everything you need for everyday life. As soon as I walked in I immediately felt "at home" walking into Grandmas house. We enjoyed the nearby beach, the library and all the shops and restaurants. Our adult kids loved walking to the brewery for drinks and night time entertainment. And we all had a lot of laughs and fun at Tucker's for bowling. All within an easy walk from the house. In the mornings we would walk to Barbs Bakery for cinammon twists. What more could we ask for? Well, the Farmers Market was fabulous and to top it off we saw Mario Batali ! We also did a side trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes , the scenery is truly spectacular. I hope that we will be able to return to this home for many future vacations and would like to thank the owner, Marcia Boynton, for sharing her special place with others.

It Doesn't Get Better Than This!

We recently had the distinct pleasure of spending a week at this lovely Northport home. It was as close to perfect as anyone could want, and Marcia is welcoming, accommodating, and efficient. The house is quiet, well-equipped, airy, and beautifully landscaped. Call dibs on the downstairs bedroom; the cross-breeze is better than any amount of air conditioning! There's a large side lawn that easily accommodated our four-generation rolling badminton game, a picnic table, lounge furniture, shade trees, and two mad-for-Frisbee dogs. We could walk anywhere in town; the grocery store, restaurants, book shop, hardware store, library, beach, marina - nothing is more than a leisurely 15 minute stroll away. (I'm not even going to mention the incredible, delectable cinnamon rolls from Barb's Bakery because I'm planning to eat them all myself.) The two teenaged members of our group were amazed to discover that you can surf on Lake Michigan. They spent a sun-filled day taking lessons and then surfing on their own through the services of Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak in Empire, which is a short 50 minute drive from Northport and has a long, clean, sand beach and towering sand dunes. Sunset Watersports delivered a rental boat to us at the boat launch in Northport; we rented a slip for it at the well-kept marina, and enjoyed being out on the crystal-clear Lake Michigan water. Sutton's Bay is 12 miles away, filled with quaint little shops to occupy the occasional damp afternoon. The local grocery can easily handle staples, but if you're looking for premium meat and shellfish, stop at the Bayside Market in Traverse City on the way through. They're open until 11:00 and have a wonderful supply of meat, shellfish, beer, wine, and various nummies to go with it all. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our holiday, and certainly hope to come back again!

Another happy wedding family!!

This house was amazing I can't begin to say how awesome this HOME was. I stress the word home as that is what it feels like. So many nice ammenities and homelike touches. Our daughter got married at the Willowbrook and this house is just a short walk there and within view of the bay. It offers so much room inside with an area for the kids to watch tv and play games and adults to have a quiet area to sit and talk. The owner was so wonderful, making sure that we had everything that we needed and even called during our stay to make sure everything was going well. I had emailed the owner many times with questions and were responded to promptly. My whole family stayed the 3 night which included my married children and grandchildren and mother in law and there was plenty of sleeping room for all of us as the grandkids loved having a slumber party in there sleeping bags and all the adults 8 total all had beds (and very comfortable ones at that). The home is nicer and bigger then the pictures could ever show. So many nice touches - way to many to list. It was nice when you are dealing with the normal stresses of a wedding having a home to stay at that made things so easy We enjoyed walking around the quaint town and meeting the neighbors. Everyone was extremely nice. The grocery store and coffee shop are within walking distance as is the marina. We did take our dog (our baby) with us and it was plenty of room for him to roam and a great place to go for walks. He had lots of fun with the big yard yet plenty of room to stretch out on the floor in the house I would recommend this home to anyone and everyone. We drove from central Illinois and had never been to Northport. We were so pleased and will definitely visit again and stay at this home. I thank the owner so much for making this such a great experience.
